Research Platform 3

We are focused on elevating bone health care across Canada by building better pathways, tools, and partnerships to support timely, effective care for everyone.

This team is concentrating on:

  • Supporting improved ways of doing research – such as better methods, tools, or data sources to study bone health.

Finding better ways to ask research questions, design studies, collect data, or analyze results contributes to research that is accurate, efficient, and relevant to the real world.

  • Studying how drugs & devices help or harm people in real life & create better tools & methods to do that. We want to understand how well drugs & medical devices actually work in the real world—not just in controlled studies. This means looking at how they help people and what side effects or problems they might cause when used in everyday life.

  • Improve bone health care by strengthening care pathways and using smarter technologies that connect provincial and territorial health systems—so everyone benefits.

Care pathways outline each step of treatment, ensuring people get the right care, at the right time, from the right provider—no matter where they live

    For example:

ER → Surgery → Hospital care → Rehab → Home support

Stronger pathways and better data sharing—through tools like electronic medical records—mean faster care, shorter stays, fewer readmissions, and safer recoveries.

  • Unlocking the power of heath data. Canada’s health data holds the key to smarter care, stronger research, and policies that truly make a difference. We aim to harness Canada’s health data, to spark innovation, shape smarter policy, and deliver care that truly meets people’s needs.

  • Examining inequities in access to appropriate care in urban and rural/remote settings in Canada. By addressing health inequities, we work towards creating a society where everyone, regardless of where they live, has a fair opportunity for good health.

2025 & 2026 Focus

To review existing research to see how studies define and track additional health conditions and outcomes in people receiving medication for osteoporosis, using large health databases.
