Douglas C. Bauer, MD is Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. He also serves as Director of the UCSF Clinical and Translational K Scholars Program, and is an Executive Committee member for the San Francisco Coordinating Center. For over 10 years he was the Director of Research, UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Bauer is a practicing general internist and clinical epidemiologist with active NIH-funded clinical research projects in several areas of aging, osteoporosis, and thyroid research, including risk factors, diagnostic tests, biomarkers and treatments. He has authored or co-authored over 450 peer reviewed publications, is an Associate Editor for the Primer on Metabolic Bone Diseases and Disorders of Mineral Metabolism, the serves on the Editorial Board the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. He is a standing member FDA Bone, Reproductive and Urologic Drugs Advisory Committee (BRUDAC),) and recently completed a 4-year term as a standing member of the Neurologic, Aging and Musculoskeletal Epidemiology (NAME) NIH Study Section. He served as a Trustee for the National Osteoporosis Foundation from 2013 to 2018.
